Welcome to another episode of the Health for the Spirit, Soul, and Body Blog from Doxa Missions. Today, we’re looking at the fascinating and powerful role of angels in the lives of believers. The Bible is filled with accounts of angels serving as God's messengers and ministers, carrying out His divine will. But what does that mean for us as Christians today? Are angels still actively working in our lives? Let’s dive into Scripture to explore the purpose, nature, and activity of angels and how we, as believers, can engage with them in our walk with God.
Angels Are Created to Serve God
Angels are not independent beings acting on their own desires. They were created by God for a specific purpose—to do His will. Unlike humans, who have free will, angels exist to serve and obey God completely. The Bible confirms this in:
Psalm 103:20 (KJV) – "Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word."
Throughout the Bible, we see angels carrying out divine instructions with power and precision. They are messengers, protectors, and enforcers of God’s commands. From delivering divine messages to battling spiritual forces, angels remain an active part of God’s kingdom.
Angels Minister to Believers
One of the most comforting truths about angels is that they are assigned to minister to believers. The book of Hebrews tells us:
Hebrews 1:14 (KJV) – "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"
This means that if you are a believer in Christ, angels are actively working on your behalf. They may be protecting you, guiding you, or even bringing answers to your prayers in ways you may not even recognize. Many Christians have testified of divine interventions where danger was averted, unexpected help arrived at just the right time, or peace filled their hearts in moments of crisis.
Angels Can Appear in Human Form
The Bible provides several accounts of angels appearing on earth in human form. This tells us that angelic encounters are not always dramatic or visibly supernatural. Sometimes, angels work in subtle ways, blending into ordinary situations. Consider these biblical examples:
Jacob’s encounter (Genesis 32:24-30) – Jacob wrestled with a man who later revealed Himself as an angel of the Lord.
Abraham’s visitors (Genesis 18:1-3) – Three men visited Abraham, and he later realized they were divine messengers.
Samson’s parents (Judges 13:3-21) – An angel appeared to announce Samson’s birth and later ascended in a flame, proving he was not an ordinary man.
The Bible even warns us to be hospitable to strangers because we might be entertaining angels unknowingly:
Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) – "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
This verse suggests that angels may sometimes take on human form, appearing as ordinary people. This is a humbling thought—how many times have we crossed paths with angels without realizing it?
Angels Are Numerous and Always Active
Some people think of angels as rare beings, but the Bible describes them as an innumerable host.
Revelation 5:11 (KJV) – "And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne... and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands."
This reminds us that angels are not only real but also incredibly numerous, constantly carrying out God’s purposes. Their presence in the heavenly realm and on earth is vast and beyond our comprehension.
Angels Obey God’s Word, Even When We Speak It
One of the most powerful truths about angels is that they respond to God’s Word. When believers declare the Word of God in faith, angels act upon it.
Psalm 103:20 (KJV) – "Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word."
This means that when we pray, proclaim God’s promises, or speak His Word over our lives, angels move to bring those words to pass. For example, the Bible says:
Psalm 91:11 (KJV) – "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
When we declare this verse in faith, we are reminding ourselves—and the spiritual realm—of God’s promise of angelic protection.
A Personal Reflection on Angelic Intervention
While I cannot personally say that I have had a direct encounter with an angel, I do believe that angels have played a role in my life without my knowledge. There have been times when I have been helped by strangers in unexpected ways—times when I was stranded or in need, and suddenly, a kind person appeared out of nowhere to assist me. Were they angels? I may never know.
But one thing I am sure of is that God intervenes in our lives through supernatural means. Whether it is through His angels, divine coincidences, or His direct hand, He is always working behind the scenes. Looking back, I can see His protection and provision in moments where things could have gone wrong. This reassures me that I am never alone, and neither are you.
How Believers Can Engage with Angels in Their Walk with God
As believers, we don’t pray to angels, but we do acknowledge their presence and role in our lives. Here are some ways to engage with the reality of angelic ministry:
Recognize their role – Be aware that angels are sent by God to minister to you as a believer.
Speak God’s Word – Since angels respond to God’s Word, declare His promises over your life.
Trust in God’s protection – Know that angels are watching over you, even when you don’t see them.
Be kind to strangers – You never know when you might be entertaining an angel unknowingly.
Angels are powerful beings created to serve God and minister to believers. They are not just biblical figures of the past—they are actively at work today, fulfilling God’s will in our lives. While we may not always recognize their presence, we can be assured that they are there, protecting, guiding, and assisting us.
