Taking Away Sin and the Curse

Taking away sin and the curse through Jesus changes how you see God, yourself, and the blessing available by faith

Welcome to another episode of the Health for the Spirit, Soul, and Body Blog from Doxa Missions. Today, we’re looking at how Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, took away sin and redeemed us from the curse so we can walk in righteousness and receive the blessing of God by faith. 

By the end of this post, you’ll see more clearly what it means that Jesus took away sin and the curse, and how that truth can strengthen your faith for daily living. 

John the Baptist made a powerful announcement when he saw Jesus: 

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29, KJV) 

That one statement carries hope for every person. Jesus was not just a teacher, a prophet, or a good example. He came as the Lamb of God. In the Old Testament, lambs were offered as sacrifices for sin, but those sacrifices had to be repeated again and again. They pointed forward to the One perfect sacrifice God had prepared. Jesus came to do once and for all what animal sacrifices could never fully accomplish. 

Jesus took away sin and the curse once for all 

When Jesus died on the cross in Jerusalem about 2,000 years ago, He satisfied God’s judgment against sin once and for all. His death opened the way for men and women everywhere to be reconciled to God through faith. Because of what Jesus accomplished, there is no need for any further sacrifice to make us right with God. 

This is one of the most freeing truths in the Christian life. We do not earn forgiveness by our effort. We do not clean ourselves up first and then come to God. We come by faith in Jesus Christ, trusting in what He has already done. 

The Bible says: 

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV) 

Jesus had no sin of His own. He was pure, holy, and without fault. Yet God placed on Him the judgment that belonged to us. He became the sin offering for us so that we could become the righteousness of God in Him. 

That means that when you put your faith in Jesus, you are no longer standing before God on the basis of your failures. You are standing before Him clothed in the righteousness of Christ. In simple terms, righteousness means right standing with God. Because of Jesus, the barrier of sin has been removed. 

That is good news for the spirit, soul, and body. Your spirit is made alive to God. Your soul can rest in His grace instead of living under guilt and condemnation. Your body can become a vessel for honoring the Lord as you walk in the benefits of redemption. 

What it means to be the righteousness of God in Christ 

Many believers struggle here. They believe Jesus died for them, but they still think they must somehow prove themselves worthy of God’s love and blessing. But righteousness is not something you achieve by working harder. It is something you receive by faith. 

When God sees the believer in Christ, He sees a person justified. To be justified means to be declared righteous before God. This is not because we have never sinned, but because Jesus bore our sin and gave us His righteousness. 

This changes how we pray. It changes how we approach Scripture. It changes how we deal with shame. We no longer come to God as outsiders hoping to be accepted. We come as sons and daughters who have been brought near by the blood of Jesus. 

Because sin has been dealt with, the way is open. There is nothing standing between the believer and God’s willingness to bless, guide, forgive, and restore. We do not have to live with a constant sense of separation. In Christ, we have peace with God. 

Redeemed from the curse through faith in Christ 

The work of Jesus did not stop at forgiveness. Scripture also tells us that He redeemed us from the curse. 

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13–14, KJV) 

This passage is powerful. Jesus not only took away sin; He also took the curse upon Himself. He became a curse for us so that the blessing of Abraham might come upon all who believe. 

In the Bible, the curse of the law includes the consequences of living under sin’s judgment and separation from God. But Jesus stepped into our place and carried that curse so that we could be redeemed from it. 

To be redeemed means to be bought back, rescued, or delivered by paying a price. Jesus paid that price with His own blood. Because of that, believers are no longer meant to live with a mindset of defeat, rejection, and hopelessness. We can now receive the blessing of God through faith. 

This does not mean life will never have challenges. It means that in Christ, the curse does not have the final word over your life. God’s blessing, favor, and promises are now available through faith in Jesus. 

The blessing of Abraham belongs to believers 

Galatians 3:14 tells us that the blessing of Abraham comes upon the Gentiles through Jesus Christ. Abraham believed God, and that faith was counted to him as righteousness. In the same way, everyone who places faith in Christ enters into that place of blessing. 

The blessing of God is not just about material things, though it can affect every area of life. It is the active goodness and favor of God working in and through your life. It includes His presence, His promises, His peace, His provision, and His power to help you live according to His will. 

That is why this truth matters in everyday life. If you belong to Christ, you do not have to think of yourself as cut off from God’s promises. You can read the Word with expectation. You can pray with confidence. You can trust that what Jesus accomplished has made a way for you to walk in what God has spoken. 

Consider this promise: 

“The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto...” (Deuteronomy 28:8, KJV) 

This reminds us that God’s blessing touches practical life. He cares about what you put your hand to. He cares about your home, your work, your family, and your daily needs. As we live by faith in Christ, we can look to God as the source of blessing in every area. 

Give voice to God’s Word 

One beautiful way to respond to God’s truth is to speak His Word in faith. Not as a formula, but as an agreement with what He has said. When your heart believes and your mouth speaks in line with Scripture, it strengthens your soul and helps renew your mind. 

A faith declaration based on God’s Word might sound like this: 

“I am blessed in the city and blessed in the field. I am blessed everywhere I go and in everything I do. The Lord causes all that I do to prosper.” 

This kind of declaration reflects truths found in Deuteronomy 28:1–4 and points our hearts toward God’s covenant blessing. It reminds us that in Christ we are no longer defined by sin, shame, or the curse. We are defined by what Jesus has done. 

Of course, speaking God’s Word is not about pretending difficulties do not exist. It is about choosing to agree with God above fear, doubt, and past failure. It is about letting His truth shape your identity. 

Living in the freedom Jesus purchased 

Taking away sin and the curse is not just a doctrine to admire. It is a truth to live from every day. 

When you feel condemned, remember that Jesus took away sin. 

When you feel unworthy, remember that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. 

When you feel trapped under defeat, remember that Christ redeemed you from the curse. 

When you wonder whether God’s promises are for you, remember that the blessing of Abraham comes through faith in Jesus. 

The cross settled the issue. Jesus has done the work. Our part is to believe, receive, and walk in what He has made available. 

That does not mean we will never need to grow. We all do. But growth happens best from a place of acceptance in Christ, not from striving to earn what He already purchased. The Christian life begins and continues by faith. 

So today, take a fresh look at Jesus, the Lamb of God. Behold Him again. See Him not only as the One who forgives sin, but also as the One who has broken the power of the curse and opened the way to the blessing of God. 

Because of Him, you can stand before God forgiven. 

Because of Him, you can live as righteous. 

Because of Him, you can trust God’s promises. 

Because of Him, you can move forward in hope.
