Welcome to another episode of the Health for the Spirit, Soul, and Body Blog from Doxa Missions! Here, we explore topics that nurture your spiritual growth, mental well-being, and physical health. Our mission is to guide you on your journey toward a balanced and fulfilling life, rooted in faith and practical wisdom.

Taking action is more powerful than worry. In fact, action is the way forward. How often have we found ourselves paralysed by overthinking or by the weight of our worries? The truth is, doing something, even one step at a time, moves us forward.

Action Empowers Faith

One crucial thing we need to move us forward is action. Action not only propels us towards our goals but also empowers our faith. James 2:20 (KJV) reminds us, "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" This scripture underscores that faith alone, without action, is lifeless. Similarly, James 2:26 (KJV) reiterates, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

Faith is demonstrated through action. As James 2:18 (KJV) states, "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." Our actions are a testament to our faith and beliefs. When we take steps, however small, toward our goals, we bring our faith to life.

Vision: The Concept of Desired Outcome

Instead of focusing solely on goals, envision the desired outcome. This shift from goal-setting to vision-casting opens up a world of possibilities. It allows for flexibility, room for pivot and change, and improvement step by step, reducing the pressure to achieve a rigid goal.

Jesus speaks of the importance of planning and counting the cost in Luke 14:28-29 (KJV): "For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him." This passage teaches us the importance of planning and considering all factors before taking action.

Planning and Breaking It Down

Planning is critical to galvanizing action and bringing motivation. Once you have a vision, break it down into achievable steps. Consider what can be done within quarters, and set short-term milestones that lead to the larger vision. This methodical approach reduces overwhelm and helps maintain focus.

Overcoming Barriers: Action is the Way Forward

Despite our best intentions, several barriers can prevent us from taking action:

  1. Unclear Goals and Priorities: Without clearly defined goals, it is nearly impossible to follow through on plans or make decisions about how to spend your time.

  2. Fear of Failure: Often, we find it easier to avoid making an effort in order to avoid the risk of failure. It’s easier to blame life circumstances than to face potential failure.

  3. Need for Perfection: Perfectionists feel compelled to do everything at the highest level of excellence. Waiting for ideal circumstances or pristine conditions will prevent you from starting, as nothing in life is perfect.

Embracing the Five-Second Rule

Mel Robbins' Five-Second Rule is a powerful tool to combat hesitation. According to Robbins, if you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within five seconds or your brain will kill the idea. This principle encourages immediate action, reducing procrastination.

John Dalberg-Acton once said, "A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last. Both do the same thing; only at different times." This quote emphasizes the importance of timely action. Similarly, Abraham Lincoln noted, "Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle." These wise words remind us that seizing the moment is essential to success.

When action is not taken, zeal and determination gradually fade. Waiting for perfect conditions or fearing failure will only delay progress and diminish enthusiasm.

Moving Forward with Action

Action is the way forward to a purposeful life. By aligning our actions with our faith, envisioning desired outcomes, planning meticulously, and breaking down goals into manageable steps, we can overcome barriers and make meaningful progress. Remember, action speaks louder than words and is more powerful than worry.

Take that first step today. Your journey to a purposeful and fulfilling life begins with action.
